FAQ

Q.
What does it mean, “No Lake Local Schools tax dollars will be used” in the purchase of artificial turf?
A.
There will be no taxpayer funds expended from the Lake Local School District. The purchase of all field-related enhancements (field prep, drainage, artificial turf and turf installation) will be from funds raised exclusively by the Lake Building Committee, Inc. (LBCI), a private, tax-exempt organization.

Q.
Once the field project is completed and then donated back to the Lake Local School District, what can we expect in additional annual maintenance costs?
A.

None! In fact, annual maintenance costs will drop by about $10,000 per year with an artificial field surface.

Q.
Who will oversee the fund-raising and construction for this project?
A.

The Lake Building Committee, Inc. (LBCI) is a non-profit, 501(c)3, tax-exempt organization that will be responsible for the completion of the project. The LBCI is the same organization that built the Lake Blue Streak Stadium and playing field.

Q.
Are my donations tax-deductible?
A.

Yes. As a tax-exempt organization, all contributions to LBCI qualify as charitable contributions.

Q.
When completed, who will have access to the use of the new field?
A.

Lake Local School District curricular (e.g., Physical Education, Marching Band, etc.) and co-curricular (e.g., athletic, intramural) activities would receive priority use. Community, civic and other requests will be accommodated through the same format currently utilized in the scheduling of the Lake Community Center.

Q.
Is synthetic turf safe?
A.

Yes. We have thoroughly researched the safety of the turf and have no cause for concern. A comprehensive library of safety information can be found here.

Q.
What is the projected fund-raising goal?
A.

The budget estimated to complete all field improvements is $850,000.

Q.
What is the field construction timeline?
A.
Fund-raising for the turf project will be ongoing throughout the remainder of 2008. We expect completion of the construction phase by late summer 2008 in time for the fall sports season. Sub-surface excavation and drainage work will begin first and take approximately 6-8 weeks. The turf install will take approximately 4 weeks. The goal of the project is to have a user-ready field by the start of the 2008-2009 school year.
